Idahobit – The Power of Community

Announcement: BGW Alofa Initiative Launch

Idahobit – The Power of Community
May 12, 2025

It was a night filled with pride, visibility, and deep community connection.

Thanks to UN Human Rights for fully funding the event and supporting the movement for SOGIESC rights across the Pacific.

We were honoured to have UN Resident Coordinator Karla Hershey open the evening, and SFA Vanilla close with a powerful reflection.

Special acknowledgements to UN Women Director Mele Mauala, Australia’s High Commissioner Her Excellency Soraya, the British High Commission, UNDP, and Eve Project for standing in solidarity with our SOGIESC communities.

We also thank all the Houses, our partners at SFA, and the wider community for showing up and making this a historic moment for Samoa.

Shoutout to House of Muse for helping bring the Mini Ball performance to life, and to our generous prize sponsors Peata Salon, Jspa, Daphne’s Shop, Momoko, and UN Women for your unwavering.

To Tanoa Tusitala Hotel, thank you for the warm hospitality and delicious food.

And finally, heartfelt thanks to the Brown Girl Woke team for managing logistics, media, and coordination, and to Samoa Grassroot for capturing the night so beautifully.
