Talofa Kids

Talofa Kids program addresses a critical need in early childhood education: teaching children about personal safety in a way that is accessible

Safe Boundaries, Safe Bodies, Strong Futures

Rather than using traditional classroom lectures, Talofa Kids captures children’s attention through interactive storytelling.

About The Program:

Launched in March 2021, the Talofa Kids program addresses a critical need in early childhood education: teaching children about personal safety in a way that is accessible, non-threatening, and highly engaging. We believe that empowering children with the knowledge of body autonomy from an early age is one of the most effective ways to protect them and build their self-confidence.

The core of the program involves the delivery of a vibrant, 30-minute performance adapted from the highly regarded Ditto Safety Kids Program. Crucially, these sessions are delivered directly by Brown Girl Woke’s own trained youth mentors. By having young, relatable mentors lead the performances, we create a safe, highly energetic, and trusting environment where primary school students feel comfortable engaging with the material.

During the performance, children learn about:

  • Understanding their own bodies and personal boundaries

  • The principles of "safe touch" versus "unsafe touch"

  • How to trust their instincts and recognize when a situation feels wrong

  • The importance of speaking up and identifying trusted adults they can turn to for help

We are proud to work closely with local educators to bring this vital safety program directly into classrooms. Currently, the Talofa Kids program is being successfully delivered to students at:

  • Anglican Church Primary

  • Vaoala Primary

  • Satupaitea Primary

  • Satupaitea Pre-school

By partnering with these schools, we are ensuring that the message of personal safety reaches children during their most formative years, giving them the tools they need to navigate the world safely.

The ongoing success and outreach of the Talofa Kids program has been made possible through the generous funding and support of the Swiss New Zealand Embassy, whose commitment to child safety aligns perfectly with our mission to protect and uplift the youth of Samoa.
